Flashback to Fields Point

From the bluff, the landscape was impressive….  The field was textured by the presence of mounds, as in a landfill….  And these tombs of culture marched on to the sea beyond, holding inside them the discarded carcasses of useless things….  The traces and scars of human culture over the face of the Earth…. the indelible signs of “progress,” of humanity marching on….  But these tombs were also digestion cells:  full of the life of bacteria, other microorganisms, and myriad invertebrates….  That a monument to dead culture is full of life is only fitting; for life is only sustained by death and death brings about life in plenty….
